Middletown Weekend Arrests: Domestic Assault
The following information is based on Middletown Police Department reports. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Robert Furtado, 53, of 985 East Main Road, was arrested on Saturday around 8:40 p.m. on a domestic simple assault and battery charge.
were called to the to meet up with the about an assault that had allegedly occurred earlier at the Sandpiper Cottages at 985 East Main Road.
Furtado and his girlfriend allegedly argued about family issues and he threw a cigarette making machine, which struck her head.
The responded to the Sandpiper Cottages earlier that day on a call that a woman had fallen. The department said that they spoke to the victim, but she told the department she was not the calling party and did not want to be bothered.
asked the victim why she did not tell the Fire Department about the assault at that time, and she reportedly told police she was scared and afraid that Furtado would retaliate.
Police went to the Sandpiper Cottages and spoke to Furtado who allegedly admitted to an altercation. Evidence on the scene led to Furtado's arrest and police brought him into custody.
