Luke Walker of Middletown is currently in Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition.

A motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon left Middletown resident Luke Walker, 54, with life threatening injuries.  Walker is currently at Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition.

Around  Sunday around 1:30 p.m.,  the Middletown Police Department and Middletown Fire Department responded to the accident in front of the Newport Creamery. Police said the motorcycle was traveling south on West Main Road and a car, operated by Patricia J. Nassirou, 67,  of  Newport, made a left turn from the northbound lane of West Main Road to enter the parking lot of 208 West Main Road.

The front of the motorcycle came into contact with the passenger side of the car, said police. The department’s accident reconstruction team responded to the scene and the accident remains under investigation.

No charges have been filed at the time of this time.

Finally the good weather is here, WATCH OUT FOR BIKERS!!! They don't stand a chance if a car goofs up. They have waited all winter to ride...lets hope this doesn't turn into a tragedy for this man's family......

Beyond "WATCH OUT FOR BIKERS!!" properly signal your turns while crossing a lane of traffic, and yield to oncoming traffic, when making a turn!

I drove by when this happened and it was devastating. I feel terrible for Mr. Walker and his family. Out for a Sunday ride and this happens due to neglectful driving! Pay attention because people's lives are at risk when you are behind that wheel. Keeping him in my thoughts.

This is a busy stretch of road and drivers have to be VERY careful when turning left across it. Prayers for this man and his family.

We talked about this exact thing (drivers turning left in front of M/Cs at intersections) at safety school Friday.

Everyone should slow down. On side streets and main roads, please SLOW DOWN

How is Mr. Walker doing?

Is the careless driver of the car who caused this accident and the terrible consequences to this man and his family going to be charged with anything? Get off the stick Middletown Police and slam it to her!

So automatically its the driver of the cars fault? Let's not mention the many motor cycle drivers who speed up and down the street..I hear them all night long, all summer long....weave in and out of lanes to get by traffic and even do wheelies on the highway! Oh but that's OK,right... Then when an accident occurs, its the cars fault! Where was that man's HELMET? NOT ON HIS HEAD! He didn't have a helmet on.....who drives a motorcycle without a helmet? A person who didn't think about proper safety before he got on that bike...should be a law in this state for bike drivers to wear a helmet!!

If you read the eye witness account of this incident YOU too would blame the car driver. So, rather then rant on about other motorcycle riders you have observed in the past, realize this one was a responsible, adult rider, riding an incredibly rare and very expensive antique bike, not speeding or doing wheelies, just enjoying a beautiful Sunday ride, cut down by an irresponsible automobile driver. You should be aware that in this case a helmet would not have saved this man's leg and he was in FULL COMPLIENCE WITH ALL LAWS!
