MPD: Man Evades Police, Arrested a Month Later
The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Man Arrested One Month After He Flees From Police
On Dec. 1, police saw Ian Collins, 31, of 75 Tilden Ave. Newport, driving a vehicle registered to his grandfather, but they recognized Collins from previous contacts. A search turned up he had a suspended license and he was pulled over on Maple Avenue.
When police requested his documents, Collins said he did not have his license because it was suspended, said police. He was escorted to the rear of the vehicle, but Collins took off running.
The officer pursued him on foot and called for backup. Newport Police arrived on-scene and followed Collins into the Coddington Point Condominium complex on Maple Avenue where police said his girlfriend lived.
Police said the girlfriend refused to answer the door until her father showed up. Once police got into the apartment, there was no sign of Collins and police said it appeared as though a back window had been opened.
Newport Police found and arrested Collins on Dec. 30. He was charged with driving with a suspended license, obstructing an officer in the execution of duties and resisting arrest.
Other Arrests
Kathleen Wylly, 55, of 62 Blue Grass was arrested on Dec. 30 on domestic assault charges after she allegedly bit and hit a Middletown woman. She reportedly told police she was upset because the woman let someone borrow her car without permission.
Justin Ryan, 23, of 94 Turnpike, Portsmouth was arrested on Dec. 27 on a bench warrant charge for failure to pay $4,905 of court fines. Ryan was the passenger of an accident on Wapping Road, when police did a routine search that turned up the warrant.
Emanuel Medeiros, 34, of 275 Beacon St., Fall River was arrested on Dec. 27 on a driving under the influence charge. Police responded to a minor accident in the parking lot of Enterprise Rent-A-Car on West Main Road. Medeiros reportedly told police he backed out and didn’t see the other vehicle because he was turning the radio. Police smelled marijuana and conducted field sobriety tests, which he failed.
At the station, he agreed to a breathalyzer which registered a .141 and a .142. He was also cited with presence of alcohol while operating a motor vehicle and failure to maintain control of his vehicle.
