MPD: Woman Mourning Over Cat Charged with DUI, Massage Table Misunderstanding

Man Accuses Girlfriend of Giving Sexual Massages for Money

George Matthews, 59, of 48 W. Passage, Portsmouth, was arrested on Thursday on domestic assault charges.  Matthews told police he had been having an affair with a 45-year-old Middletown woman that caused him a divorce.  He told police he went to her house and saw a massage table set up in her living room.  Since she does various miscellaneous jobs, Matthews said he thought she was giving massages that included sexual acts for money, said police.

The victim alleged that Matthews pushed her and as she was trying to “come back at him”, he hit her and threw a glass candle holder which shattered and cut her foot.

Woman’s Sob Story About Dead Cat Followed by Arrest

Collen Othote, 45, of 30 Ludlow Rd., Apt  #A, was arrested on Friday at 11:03 p.m. after Burger King employees called Middletown Police to report a drunk female in the drive-thru.  

Police said Othote swerved across the road and bumped into the curb, which punctured a hole the size of a quarter in her tire.  When police stopped Othote, they said she apologized for running up on the curb and explained she was upset because she had just put down her cat.

Police said she failed the field sobriety tests and refused to take a preliminary breath test.  She was cited with a first offense DUI, refusal to submit to a chemical test, refusal to submit to a preliminary breath test and failure to maintain proper control of a vehicle.  

Speeding Stop Leads to Arrest

Robert Nicoll, 34, of 84 Braman St., Newport was arrested on Friday at 11:30 p.m. after police pulled him over for driving 41 mph on West Main Road, which is a 30 mph zone.  A routine search turned up an active bench warrant for failure to appear for a violation of a no contact order charge.
