Newport Police Log: Two Alleged Kitchen Knife Assaults, DUI Arrest

The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Man charged with allegedly attacking roommate with knife

Eric N. Anderson, 47, of Newport, was arrested around 9:37 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, for domestic assault with a deadly weapon, domestic vandalism, and domestic simple assault charges.

Police were dispatched to Anderson's residence for a report of two men fighting, and when they arrived, found the victim bleeding from his hands and head. He said Anderson had attacked him and accused him of stealing his medication.

Newport firefighters also responded to treat him.

The victim told police Anderson then grabbed a kitchen knife and came at him with it. He hid with his girlfriend in the bathroom until they believed Anderson had left.

When they came out, the broken knife was stuck in the door, which had several puncture marks in it. 

Police found Anderson at the emergency room at Newport Hospital.

Man reportedly threatened woman with a knife

Charles J. Roderick, 34, of Newport, was arrested around 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8, for domestic assault with a deadly weapon, domestic simple assault and domestic threats charges.

Police were dispatched to Festival Field for an assault report. According to the victim, Roderick had pinned her on the floor and threatened her with a kitchen knife.

The victim did not require any medical treatment.

Reports said there were signs of a struggle throughout the apartment.

Police located Roderick at Mama Leone's.

Man charged with DUI

Agim Jazaj, 38, of 2 Kingston Ave., Newport, was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 9, for DUI, resisting arrest, and driving without a license charges.

Police stopped Jazaj, who was leaving The Landing. Reports said he appeared intoxicated and refused to submit to a field sobriety test.

Jazaj also said he did not have his license on him.

When police handcuffed him, he tried to break free twice.

Man sleeping on steps reportedly attacks officer

Jayson A. Desack, 38, of 29 Franklin St., Newport, was arrested around 4:59 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, for a simple assault charge.

An employee from Rosemary and Thyme reported Desack to police because he was sleeping on the steps near the restaurant.

When police tried to wake Desack, he reportedly rammed the officer with his chest.

why should you not have to pay ?we do in Newport...let the tourist pay like they do coming over the pell bridge...its only 83 cents! for residents...if you think thats a crime to help pay for a new bridge than you need to get a clue...
