Middletown Police: Drug Posession, Domestic Assault and DUI

The following information is based on Middletown Police Department arrest reports and does not indicate any convictions.

The following arrests were made by the for the period between the evening of Wednesday, March 6, and the morning of Friday, March 9.

Drug Possession

Dylan Rogers of 39 Brewster Dr., Somerset, MA was arrested around 11:50 p.m. Thursday, March 8, on a felony drug possession charge. The 21 year-old was also cited for driving in possession of controlled substances and speeding.  

According to the police report, Rogers was clocked traveling northbound on Aquidneck Avenue at approximately 10 mph over the posted limited. When the officer pulled out to follow the car, Rogers allegedly sped up. He was stopped at the entrance to Gaudet Middle School.

The officer noticed a marijuana grinder and a glass pipe on the the floor in between the passenger’s legs. The passenger allegedly told the officer that they planned to smoke the marijuana on their way back to Somerset.

Police reported that after a search of the car, they also found Amphetamine, also known as Ecstasy, and several pieces of drug paraphernalia.  

Driving Under the Influence

Paul Mackin of 1 Sundown Ln. was arrested on Thursday, March 8, on a first offense driving under the influence charge. The 44-year-old was also cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Police reported Mackin was traveling at speeds over 50 mph in the posted 25 mph zone of Coddington Highway. Mackin was stopped on Maple Avenue, just east of the Newport town line. When police asked Mackin the reason for his high speeds, he allegedly responded that the car was cold and that is how he warms it up.  

Police reported a strong odor of alcohol from Mackin’s breath. When asked how much he had to drink, he allegedly told officers he had one beer. When asked to count backwards from 37 and stop at 21, Mackin allegedly began to count upward, stopped and asked the officer if he wanted him to count backward. When the officer explained again that he was to count backwards from 37 and stop at 21, he began to count backwards and stopped counting at 27.  

Mackin also failed the finger touch test, police said. During the field sobriety tests police reported he was swaying and had a hard time following the instructions.   

He registered a .106 when administered breathalyzer. He was brought into custody and processed without incident.

Domestic Assault

Amy Borge of 319 Broadway, Newport, was arrested around 4:20 p.m. Thursday, March 8, on a misdemeanor domestic assault charge.  A witness called police to report a physical altercation on the corner of Jepson Lane and Olphant Lane.
