Pug Recovering Following Coyote Attack

Coyote Attacks Pug

Around 5:30 a.m. Monday, March 14, a coyote attacked a 12-year-old female black pug at 37 White Terrace after the dog’s owner let the pet out in the early morning hours. According to police reports, the pug was in the rear yard when a coyote jumped the three-foot high fence and bit the dog on its back and under its neck. The owner was able to scare the coyote away with a flashlight before more serious injury resulted. The dog was to be treated later in the morning for the two bite wounds and was expected to recover, a police spokesperson said.

Drug-Related Arrests Reported

Middletown police charged Corey D. Goglia, 26, of 37 Franklin St., Warren, around 12:03 p.m. with felony drug possession and misdemeanor first offense possession of marijuana following a car stop on John Clarke Road near Silva Lane for an expired inspection sticker. Police who questioned the driver alleged they smelled marijuana and that a search turned up a soda can with a small amount of marijuana in it, along with a prescription bottle with several different pills later identified as Oxycodone, Carisoprodol, Suboxone and Sertraline. According to the arrest report, the prescription bottle for Oxycodone was prescribed to Goglia. It was returned to him after he was arrested and processed on charges related to the other recovered controlled and illegal substances.

Middletown Police arrested Shane A. Anderson, 19, of 1 Seaboard Court, Middletown, on Sunday around 9:48 p.m. on a first offense misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession and also cited him for underage alcohol possession. According to the arrest record, police stopped the car he was driving at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Sunset Lawn. The officer at the scene alleged detecting the smell of marijuana in his car and that, upon further questioning, Anderson allegedly turned over two small bags of marijuana. A search of the car also allegedly turned up an open bottle of brandy. Anderson was released and ordered to appear at the Second District Court on March 25 for the marijuana charge and to Municipal Court on March 29 to answer the underage drinking charge.

Woman Charged with Drunk Driving

Sara Patricia Quinn, 21, of 22 Homer St., Newport, was arrested Monday around 1:42 a.m. on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, a misdemeanor first offense. According to the arrest report, police stopped the car she was driving on West Main Road near the Newport Creamery restaurant. Police on patrol allegedly observed the car swerve several times into other lanes before pulling it over. During questioning, they reportedly detected the smell of alcohol and bloodshot, glossy eyes. After conducting a field sobriety test and a preliminary blood-alcohol concentration breath test, in which a reading of .185 registered, police charged her with driving under the influence of alcohol and also cited her for a moving vehicle violation for driving outside the lane.

Warrant arrests

On Monday around 9:54 p.m., Middletown police arrested James Michaud Barta, 22, of 69 Green End Ave., Middletown, on an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Second District Court for allegedly failing to appear at court. According to the arrest record, police stopped a car in which he was a passenger on Valley Road near Continental Drive for having a rear license plate light out. A background check of both the driver and Barta, the passenger, turned up the outstanding warrant, police reported.

On Monday around 9:45 a.m., Raymond Joseph Correira, 24, of 220 Redwood Road, Portsmouth, was arrested on an arrest warrant issued by the Fall River Police Department for a domestic violence allegation that took place in Fall River. According to the arrest record, police stopped his car on John Clarke Road after identifying his vehicle. He was later arraigned at the Second District Court and turned over to the custody of the Fall River Police Department.
