RI Fire Departments Pay Respect to Fallen Mass. Brothers

When there's a fire, firefighters don't care about rank, department, company. They fight the fire and try to save lives. If one town has a blaze, the next town over will man the stations. And when a firefighter dies in the line of duty, the next town over mourns, too.

Fire Departments from across Rhode Island joined thousands of other firefighters from around the world this week to pay respects to Lt. Ed Walsh and Firefighter Michael Kennedy, two Boston firefighters who died while battling a 9-alarm blaze in Back Bay last week and were laid to rest on Wednesday and Thursday in two separate emotional ceremonies.

Firefighters from Middletown, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Narragansett and East Greenwich all were represented in Boston in a show of support and solidarity. Also attending were members of the Rhode Island State Police.
