Two Portsmouth Residents Arrested on Marijuana Charges

The arrest occurred around 1 am on West Main Road near Brown's Lane.

Middletown police arrested two Portsmouth residents on alleged marijuana possession charges around 1 am Wednesday, July 28, 2010 following a traffic stop on West Main Road, according to police reports.

Brandon E. Bateman, 21, and a 17-year old minor, both Portsmouth residents, were reportedly each charged with 1st offense marijuana possession, a misdemeanor, after samples of substances at the scene allegedly tested positive during a field test conducted by police officers.

Reports indicate that a patrol team initially pulled over a 2004 Dodge Stratus driven by a 26-year old female Portsmouth resident with three passengers inside, after clocking the car at 53 mph in a posted 35 mph zone on West Main Road near Brown's lane.

The 17-year old male was later released to the custody of a parent and Bateman was ordered to appear at District Court on Aug. 13, 2010.
