Middletown Assists in Tiverton Boat Fire [VIDEO]

Crews responded around 3 a.m. Monday.

A dry docked boat is completely destroyed after fire crews battled a blaze at 3580 Main Road, Tiverton, around 3 a.m. Monday. 

According to Tiverton's Acting Lt. Bob Gagnon, crews responded to a neighbor report of a structure fire on the property behind Clearview Farm, Claddagh Farm and Fox Gate Farms. Upon arrival, they encounterd a 41-foot Hatteras Cabin Cruiser completely engulfed next to two garages. Gagnon said heavy smoke could be seen from Main Road. No one was injured.

All  engines responded on scene, along with a water tanker and another from . A  engine responded to the scene, and crews from Westport, Fall River,  and Swansea fire departments back-filled Tiverton's stations.

The strong winds from Sunday night's nor'easter gave concern to one the flames coming too close to one of the garages, which had a Desrosiers Excavating dump truck parked on site. Gagnon said crews located the exposure hazards and started attacking the flames to prevent the fire from spreading. The other nearby structure is a horse barn with about 20 horses, according to Chief Robert Lloyd.

Gagnon estimated they used approximately 3,000 gallons of water on the boat fire, and added they were able to use foam from Portsmouth's engine to quickly fight the burning boat fiberglass.

Chief Lloyd said the cause of the fire is under investigation by the town and state fire marshal.
