VIDEO: Tiverton Fire Chief Gives Details on Crest Road Fire

The fire has now been extinguished. Multiple fire departments assisted, including the Middletown Fire Department. At least one firefighter was taken to the hospital.

The fire at a home located at 58 Crandall Road in Tiverton has now been extinguished.

According to Tiverton Fire Chief Robert Lloyd, his department received a call this morning reporting that there was an outside fire at the home that had extended inside. They reportedly received the call around 11 a.m.

An off-duty firefighter arrived on the scene before anyone else and reported that the fire was extending up through the roof and into the home. The department called additional alarms because, according to the chief, there's no water down in that South Tiverton area, particularly with the heat of the day.

"It's so hot, it's 90, particularly with all their gear on, it makes it hard to fight this fire," he said.

Lloyd said that one firefighter was taken to Charlton Memorial Hospital to be evaluated. The firefighter was reportedly working on his second bottle inside the fire when his heart rate got "very, very high," Lloyd said. The chief was not aware of his medical condition at this time.

Portsmouth, Middletown, Little Compton, Bristol, Westport, Dartmouth, and Fall River fire crews were among those called to the scene to assist. Lloyd said there are no hydrants in that section of South Tiverton.

Fall River also aided Tiverton by responding to another fire call off Fish Road this morning.

The cause of the Crest Road home fire is still unknown at this time. Lloyd said his department's fire marshal will be investigating.

"We'll be here for several hours," he said.
