W. Main Road Reopened After Ace Hardware Gas Leak

Middletown, Portsmouth and Newport fire departments responded to the scene.

West Main Road is open to traffic again after cleared the scene of a propane gas leak at Tuesday morning.

According to a police officer, an Ace Hardware employee was attempting to refill a propane tank on the property, but there wasn't a secure connection to the line. A large cloud plumed from the tank and the fire department was called to respond.

Because the cloud was so dense, firefighters had to spray water onto it to knock it back to access the tank.

West Main Road was temporarily shut down in the area during the situation, but has since reopened.
