Weekend Arrests: Bar Fight, Urinating in Public

The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

  • Joan Francis, 44, of 7 Ludlow Road was arrested on Monday around 1:30 a.m. on charges of disorderly conduct, simple assault and resisting arrest. Police said they responded to Brewski’s Pub for a report of a fight between two women.  When they arrived, Francis was allegedly screaming and appeared intoxicated. She allegedly resisted being placed in handcuffs and wouldn’t go into the police cruiser.

  • Michelle Dupree, 52, of no permanent address was arrested on Thursday around 6:15 a.m. on a willful trespass charge.   Police said they were dispatched to 54 Oliphant Lane, which is part of the Rhode Island Nurseries. Police said she had a small dog which was transported to the Potter League for animals.

  • Jeffrey Circosta, 22, of 11 Freeborn Street, Newport, was arrested on Thursday around 1:17 a.m. on charges of driving under the influence and disorderly conduct. He was also cited for refusal to submit to a Breathalyzer.   Police said he was stopped because he made an abrupt turn onto West Main Road, as if he were trying to avoid police. He turned into Taco Bell and allegedly urinated in the parking lot.  Police said he pulled up to order food and when asked to pull forward into a parking space, Circosta, allegedly responded “no” and kept ordering food. The officer asked again in a louder voice and Circosta pulled forward, said police. He failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.

  • Erin Murphy, 21, of 6 Woolsey Road, was arrested on Wednesday around 10:00 p.m. for driving with a suspended license and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty.  Police said a person called 911 to report Murphy was driving with a suspended license.   Police saw the car that matched the description in the breakdown lane on Valley Road.  Murphy allegedly told officers her name was Kathryn Murphy and she did not have any identification.  She reportedly said she was in an argument with her boyfriend at Easton’s Beach in Newport and he smashed her phone. Police asked if she was actually Erin Murphy, but she allegedly said Erin was her sister.   Police then they found cards in her purse with the name of Erin Murphy.  Her boyfriend, Joseph Maghuyop, 28, of 6 Woolsey Road, was arrested by Newport Police on domestic vandalism charges for the smashed phone.
