Jennifer O’Hanley, 37, of 14 Gilroy St., Newport, was arrested on Saturday by Middletown police on charges of driving under the influence, simple assault, and resisting arrest. She was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test.
Police were called to 2 Plymouth Ave. around 6:09 p.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance. She allegedly told police she came to get her husband to go to their child’s birthday party, but he refused as they were going through a divorce. O’Hanley appeared to be intoxicated, said police.
Police asked O’Hanley to wait by her car, but she started the car and drove it up Plymouth Avenue, side-swiping her husband’s truck. She failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest, said police.
When police attempted to put her in handcuffs she tried to pull away and begged officers to let her go, said police. Police they had to force her into the cruiser and she kicked the middle glass of the police car and an officer's knee. The officer was treated at Newport Hospital for injuries.
