Rhode Island tourism maps will now recognize the "real Rhode Island" under its Native American name.

Well, it might have taken a few centuries, but Aquidneck Island has finally made it on the map!

Rhode Island tourism maps, that is.

The state's tourism maps will now recognize the "real Rhode Island" under its Native American name, according to Projo.com.

The Providence Journal's Web site says the island was omitted from maps before because its official name, "Rhode Island," is one shared by the state. The island will now be featured on tourism maps as "Aquidneck Island."
