The Rhode Island Department of Health (DOH) recommended that Atlantic Beach Club Beach remain closed Thursday, Aug. 18, 2010, the result of recent rains and storm drain run-off that cause high bacteria levels.

Health officials caution that beach waters after heavy rains may contain high levels of harmful bacteria that may cause illness.

The DOH often discourages swimming, surfing and other full body contact activities at Atlantic Beach Club for at least 24-hours after heavy rainfall, as heavy rains and water from stormwater drains flow into the ocean waters there.
