"Best of the Best" Receive 2011 Middletown Community Citizen Awards

Members of Middletown's community were honored by the Aquidneck Grange and the Town Council Thursday evening in a special outdoor ceremony.

The , located at 499 East Main Road, conducted their annual Community Citizens of the Year Awards Ceremony Thursday evening on the lawn in front of the hall.

Five awards were presented to community members who have made positive impacts in the Town of Middletown. Each received a framed copy of the award.

was on hand and also presented each winning participant with a Proclamation from the Town Council, as well as a special commemorative tile with the Town’s official seal.

 “These are the best of the best Middletown has to offer,” Aquidneck Grange Secretary Betsey Peckham said at the ceremony.

According to Peckham the nomination process started several months ago and the winning candidates were voted on by the members of the Aquidneck Grange:

  • “Fireman of the Year Award” went to Middletown Firefighter Robert McCall.
  • “Policeman of the Year Award” went to Middletown Detective Timothy Beck.
  • “Citizen of the Year Award” went to Forest Avenue School Principal and Harbor Master Mr. Stephen C. Ponte.
  • “Principal of the Year Award” went to Gaudet Middle School Principal .
  • “Teacher/Farmer of the Year Award” went to Forest Avenue School Nurse Mrs. Cam Ventura.
