Bridge Tolls Inspire Civil Disobedience

Will you pay the .10 cents bridge toll? Many residents say they will not, after RITBA Chairman David Darlington said they might not send bills to those who only violate a few times.

Many East Bay residents say they plan to leave their E-ZPass transponders at home when bridge tolls begin on the Sakonnet River Bridge in two weeks.

In Facebook comments Monday, residents spoke openly about not paying the 10-cent bridge toll, which is set to begin on Aug. 19. Here's a few of the comments:

Renee Cwiek Sartini: Mine is in my closet and it will stay there...Even if the minimum amount is $5, I would have to go over it 50 times to get a bill. Personally, I don't go over it that much. They can send me a bill if I do reach it, and I'll pay it then.

Daniel C: Leave it home, this state sucks enough out of us

Matthew Mello: My EZ Pass will be in the plastic bag, same one I use when towing the camper.

Kathy Kordas: Mine will stay home. Why should i pay when ppl who don't have one won't be billed

The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority previously stated they are unsure how they will charge drivers who do not pay the 10-cents since the cost of postage exceeds the toll.

RITBA Chairman David Darlington said they might not even send bills to those who only violate a few times.

What do you think? Will you take down your E-ZPass transponder when the tolls go into effect or will you pay the toll? Tell us in the comment section below.
