Gospel Choir Joins Middletown Seniors in Celebrating Civil Rights

A special luncheon to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., postponed from January due to a winter storm, was held recently at the Middletown Senior Center.

The recently held a special luncheon to honor the legacy and dream of civil rights leader on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The HBC Gospel Choir gave a stirring, uplifting and emotional performance that brought tears to the eyes of many in the audience of 50 Aquidneck Island seniors, said Senior Center Executive Director Arleen Kaull.

The luncheon featured a special menu with Dr. King's favorite foods, researched and prepared by Kaull. Fried pork chops, butter bean soup, sweet potatoes, string beans, biscuits and pecan pie were enjoyed by all.
