Primary Results Show Middletown Voters Aligned with State Trends

Middletown voters' favored candidates mirrored statewide results. Here's how Middletown voters cast their ballots in the Sept. 14 Primary Election.

In every state office and Congressional race, Middletown's favored candidates followed state trends and aligned with those candidates who will be placed on the November General Election ballot.

Of the 911 voters who turned out to cast ballots in Middletown on Tuesday for the state and Congressional Primary Elections, 609 voters were registered Democrats and 302 were Republicans, canvassers said after tabulating votes.

Middletown had three Primary Election pollling sites this year. Town Clerk Wendy J.W. Marshall reported that 520 votes had been cast at the High School for Precinct 1901, 354 at the Town Hall site for Precinct 1907, and 37 for Precinct 1905.

With about 10,300 registered Middletown voters eligible to participate, 8.8-percent of voters turned out for this year's Primary Election. Local officials attributed low voter turnout to the absence of local Town Council and School Committee primary elections on ballots this year. No Primary Elections were held this year for local Town Council and School Committee races because the numbers of candidates in each race did not warrant a primary contest to narrow the fields.

The top vote-getters in each race from Tuesday's Primary Election will move on to square off in the November General Election. Statewide 2010 Primary Election results may be viewed here at the Secretary of State website.
