Middletown's Commuter Forecast for Week of Jan. 17

Middletown residents begin their weekly commute Tuesday morning after the long holiday weekend with some potentially slick and icy conditions from the overnight mix of rain, sleet and snow falling right up to the early commuting hours.

ROAD & BRIDGE WORK

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation advises motorists of the following projects in and around Newport County for the week of Monday, Jan. 17 :

Newport/Jamestown

  • On Route 138 eastbound and westbound on the Pell (Newport) Bridge, lane closures are possible for painting and steel repairs by the R.I. Turnpike & Bridge Authority. From Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at least one lane in each direction will remain open.

Portsmouth

  • The Hummocks Avenue ramp to Route 24 north has been reopened.

Tiverton

  • Riverside Drive may be closed to traffic for beam placement Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. A detour is in place.
  • Evans Avenue near the Central Avenue intersection may be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Central Avenue is closed to traffic. A detour is in place.
  • A temporary road connecting Quaker Avenue to Central Avenue and Main Road is open.
  • The Temporary Tucker Avenue roadway is now closed. Motorists are advised to use the new Quaker Extension or Riverside Drive.
  • The off-ramp at Exit 5 from Route 24 north has been narrowed, with a new ramp alignment in effect.
