Navy Secretary Ray Mabus to Address War College Energy Strategy Forum

Mabus' speech Wednesday morning will be streamed online. The annual two-day forum to examine worldwide energy challenges, impacts to maritime services and related national security issues takes place Tuesday and Wednesday in Newport.

Ray Mabus, Secretary of the Navy, will be among the featured speakers at this year's Naval War College "Current Strategy Forum" that takes place Tuesday and Wednesday in Newport.

Now in its 62nd year, this year's forum plans to cover topics that include energy and U.S. national security, vulnerabilities and opportunities, according to a Naval War College announcement.

Each year, the two-day strategy forum brings together maritime leaders with academic experts, the press release noted. In addition to Mabus, keynote speakers this week include Admiral Gary Roughead, U.S. Navy, Chief of Naval Operations, Lieutenant General George J. Flynn, U.S. Marine Corps Commanding General of the Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Stephen M. Walt of Harvard University, as well as other Navy officials, energy leaders and Naval War College professors.

The two-day forum plans to delve into discussions on the critical role of energy in international security, the foreseen impacts of increasing demands on natural resources worldwide, and the "related vulnerabilities and opportunities for the nation and maritime services" given the ongoing energy challenges, the news release stated.

According to the Navy War College Public Affairs Department, a live video feed of Mabus' address at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and others' keynote addresses will be made available at www.dvidshub.net or http://www.dvidshub.net/webcast.
