Pet Project: Meet Trick Dog Lex

The Potter League for Animals found new homes for 13 animals over the last weekend and has more than 120 animals in its care, most of which are ready for adoption.

The Potter League for Animals, Aquidneck Island's only animal shelter, found new homes for six dogs, six cats, and one bird during its most recent adoption weekend, but 122 animals remain in its care seeking new families to take them in.

Spotlighted this week is trick dog "Lex," who hails from Pennsylvania. Find out all about Lex in the video here!

While some animals at Potter League won't be available for adoption until undergoing additional training, assessment or medical care, the majority of pets are ready, according to shelter officials.

Besides the 89 cats and 14 dogs currently living at Potter League, there are bunnies, turtles, an iguana, tarantulas and more exotic pets, including one chinchilla. Notes Executive Director, Christie Smith,  "Whatever animal becomes a pet store fad is sure to end up in a shelter."

Because of the large numbers of adult cats this time of year due to breeding cycles, the Potter League currently is offering a Cat Days of Summer Special with discounted adoption prices for cats.
