Providence Attorney to Become Special Master for CCFD

Richard Land will be appointed to oversee the troubled district.

Providence attorney Richard Land announced Monday that he will be taking on the role of temporary Special Master of the Central Coventry Fire District, which filed for state receivership last Tuesday. Land has been appointed to ensure that judicial orders are followed throughout the legal process.

The 52-member district is currently working without pay as it's $1.6-million deficit is being considered.

Land's appointment will be reviewed by R.I. Superior Court Judge Brian P. Stern on Wednesday.

Land has practiced law in Rhode Island since 1996 and was named Receiver for the bankrupt 38 Studios in August of this year.

John.... Clearly you are just another one of the many misinformed people who come on here and post nonsense without knowing the facts. The days of volunteers are far from done. If you did your homework, you would realize that the overwhelming majority of the fire service in this COUNTRY... nearly 75%... is volunteer and paid on call. Career departments make up a very small percentage of the fire service. In addition, you obviously dont know your facts because the WCFD has paid crews in the station 20 hours a day, not just during the day. Last but certainly not least, dont go shooting your mouth off about the response to calls that you OBVIOUSLY know nothing about. If you are going to post in an open forum such as this, know the FACTS before you make yourself look and sound stupid and biased..

Joey.... You hit the nail on the head. Coventry may be a big town square mileage wise (aprox 64 square miles) but people should keep in mind that 50% of the town or roughly 32 square miles are part of the Western Coventry District... The only non union department in town and the one that is made up primarily of call and volunteer members. CCFD needs to stop trying to be something they are not.... A big city fire department. Its unfortunate that the rank and file firefighters in Central Coventry are having to pay the price for the poor management and decision making by senior staff and management.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong but CCFD hasn't paid off their ladder, therefore they don't own it and couldn't sell it as some have suggested.

Land is now the biggest crook in the entire scenario - He could care less about Coventry. All he cares about is lining his own pockets. He almost cost the town another $250,000 by approving that the Union could spending more money that we didn't have on a new rescue. If we hadn't voted out the Union Tuesday - we would have owed another $250K. I bet he planned to liquidate that ambulance in another 6 months -and he's going to pocket money on everything he liquidates- that new ambulance probably would have let him pocket $20K . Land...all he does is leach off Tax payers that are suffering because Local Town and State legislatures have been run into the ground. We need him out of Coventry fast --Land and Judge Serns are the biggest crooks of all.
