RIPTA Newport Bus Temporarily Re-Routed

Detours will be in effect immediately until July 29.

Representatives of Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) have contacted the with a request to utilize some of the weight restricted streets in the city's south end. The request has come about due to construction at the south end of Bellevue Avenue and Coggesshall Avenue, which is impacting RIPTA busservice in the south end of the city.

Without use of weight restricted streets, bus service would be suspended south of the immediately and could be suspended at a point further north in the coming days.

The concerns were relayed to the city administration and the determination was made to allow the use of a detour from Bellevue, north on Ledge Road to Lakeview Avenue, left to Coggeshall Avenue and then north to Rovensky Avenue, and back east onto Bellevue. This was done in order to continue RIPTA service in the affected area and out of the public safety concern of leaving individuals stranded at designated, marked bus stops. This detour will begin immediately and is expected to last until Friday, July 29.
