  5. On this day in 1990, fossil hunter Susan Hendrickson discovered three bones in a cliff near Faith, South Dakota, leading to the discovery of the largest-ever recovered skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus rex, a 65 million-year-old specimen named Sue, after Hendrickson.
