Looking for some answers and fast? Here are five things going on in our community today, but certainly not all, so be sure to check our daily News, Calendar and Events listings for more happenings, as well as our local columnists' weekly articles for news you can use:

 

1. Last night, local candidates for the State Senate addressed RI's state and local economy at an Election forum held at CCRI by Citizens Concerned About Casino Gambling. Read all about our local candidates here.

2. Leftovers don't have to be just something you re-heat. Instead, yesterday's dinner can be a great starting point for a fast, easy and delicious meal on a workday tonight, or for everyone's pre-packed lunches tomorrow.

3.  Today at the Schools:

  • Aquidneck Elementary School's PTG meets at 6:30 p.m.;
  • State NECAP testing continues today for Grades 3, 4-8 and 11;
  • Grades 9-12 are holding their First Quarter interims;
  • And Grade 8 Gaudet Middle School students are taking part in YMCA team-building exercises.

4.  In Middletown High School sports:

  • Read all about last night's Girls' Varsity Soccer match against Moses Brown—as the Lady Islanders set their sights on the division playoffs.
  • Cheer on Kristin Bertsch, one of the top eight tennis players to head to Pawtucket to compete in the All-State singles tournament.

5.  From 5:30 to 7 p.m. tonight, the Newport County Chamber of Commerce will hold a "How to Use a Blackberry" seminar to maximize features and applications. Steve Phelan of Wireless Zone in Portsmouth will conduct the workshop.
