Viewfinder: Potter League Sees 'Coup de Cat' As Population Soars

The latest news and events at the Potter League for Animals for September 2011.

Felines, cats, kittens.

No matter how you say it, the animal of the month at the is definitely the cat.

Despite having adopted out 46 cats in the month of August, there are still 118 cats in the care of the shelter. They have even had to open more rooms to house the cats and display them to the public.

If you’re thinking of adding a kitty to your home, now is a great time to visit the and see the wide variety of cats and kittens they have available for adoption.

Of course, if you favor the canine variety for pets, there are plenty of those as well--29 to be exact, which is nearly as many as they adopted out in the entire month of August.

Potter League Happenings

The Potter League has some very fun and interesting dog events coming up in September:

  • On Thursday, Sept. 15 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Rough Point’s 3rd Annual “Doggy” Fashion Show sponsored by Wag Nation will take place to benefit both the Potter League and the Newport Restoration Foundation. Dogs and their owners will show off the fashions of Bellevue Avenue, display unique training demonstrations, and enjoy treats for both humans and dogs alike. Admission is $10.  
  • The is offering an intriguing class called “What is My Dog Saying?” on Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m. The class will explore how dogs use body language to communicate and will be led by Lisa Gould and Claire Senecal. All Potter Pet University classes are free but pre-registration is required. For more information on this and other classes offered at the Potter League, visit www.potterleague.org.
