Real Estate Agent or "Couples Councelor"

Men and women tend to take up different tasks in the home buying and purchasing process but both agree the real estate agent is important in helping them with the process.

MEN AND WOMEN CLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR DIFFERENT TASKS:
- 39% of men in a partnership claim researching banks to finance and secure a mortgage are completely their responsibility.
- 42% of women in a partnership believe it is their sole responsibility to set up appointments.
- 34% of women believe researching neighborhoods are fully their responsibility.

MEN AND WOMEN’S FEELINGS TOWARD HOMEOWNERSHIP DIFFER:
- Women seem to enjoy the process of purchasing a home more than men …
o 87% of women enjoy looking at homes, compared with 77% of men.
o Women are16% more likely to associate homeownership with a sense of pride and accomplishment compared to men.
o Women are11% more likely to associate homeownership with a sense of independence compared to men.

MEN AND WOMEN’S DIFFERING PERCEPTION OF HOMEOWNERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
- 71% of females say that making the down payment is a shared responsibility compared with 56% of males.
- 53% of males are more likely to say researching schools is a shared responsibility compared with 42% of females.
- 65% of females say collecting and evaluating assets and/or financials is a shared responsibility whereas only 54% of males say the same.
- 63% of men say keeping the house in order for a potential buyer is a shared responsibility compared with 47% of women.

THE ROLE OF THE REAL ESTATE AGENT AS A THERAPIST
- Both men and women view their real estate agent as an honest and knowledgeable resource in the process of home purchasing.
- 83% of those in a partnership said their last real estate agent was helpful at forming an agreement with their partner.
- 92% of respondents said their agent was helpful in the process of home purchasing or buying.
- 89% of people have used a real estate agent in at least some part of the home buying/selling process.
- 95% of people believe that a real estate agent is important in helping them with the process.
- 86% of those in the relationship trust their real estate agent’s advice just as much as or more than their partner’s.

SIMILAR PERCEPTIONS MEN AND WOMEN HAVE ABOUT HOMEOWNERSHIP:
- Certain perceptions about homeownership are universal despite gender.
- Both sexes ranked safe neighborhood, overall condition of the home and number of bedrooms the most important home features.
- Both men and women ranked investment appeal and control of living space as the top reasons to own a home.

CONFIDENCE REMAINS IN THE MARKETPLACE
- Favorable perception of residential real estate at 73% rose to the highest level since the survey began in 2011.
- 96% in both genders claim owning a home is important to them.
