Business Manager Leaves Little Compton Schools for Middletown Job

Gina Augustus will work with the Newport County Regional Special Education program.

A Little Compton School District manager is headed to Middletown.

With sadness and regret, the Little Compton School Committee on Wednesday said goodbye to Business Manager Gina Augustus, who accepted a new job earlier that day as business manager at the program in Middletown. She's been with the five years and her last day is Dec. 30.

"It's a fabulous community," Augustus said of Little Compton. "I was happy to support them during the time I was here, and I'll continue during the transition."

Superintendent Kathryn Crowley credited Augustus for "straightening out the finances" in the district, and working on the uniformed charter accounts.

"The next person is coming into a well-maintained position under her leadership," Crowley said. "Sadley, we accept with regret."

The committee accepted Augustus's resignation in a 4-1 vote, with member Lynn Lebreux voting no, not wanting to see her go, but understanding.

"Some of us remember the situation the school was in and what state the books were in," said Don Gomez, committee chairman, on Augustus's departure. "There were many things that got straightened out and we built up a reasonable surplus in the last three years and [were able to] level fund. That's amazing during these times. A large part [of that] is due to you."
