Grammy Nominated Artist Comes to Aquidneck School, Hawaiian Dance, Art Contest and More

The complete guide to what's happening in Middletown Schools the week of March 21-25.

Middletown schools have quite the busy schedule this week, with everything from vacation program enrollment to BEEP, Builder's Club, Mentors for the Moment and the MHS student-faculty hoops game.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Coming off a successful February program, Middletown public schools are again offering a Vacation Enrichment Program for the April school break for students in grades K-8. The program will include games, arts and crafts, music and more. It will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, April 18 through Thursday, April 21. Students are required to bring lunch, but morning and afternoon snacks will be provided. The cost of the program is $150 and registration must be completed by April 11. See attached registration form for more details.
  • The Middletown Schools Music Boosters are collecting used band instruments in any condition for the benefit of the music programs at Gaudet Middle School and Middletown High School. Donations can be dropped off at the main office of either school. For more information, call 846-7250.
  • Patagonia and Team One Newport are holding their 3rd Annual Children’s Art Contest. Children are asked to create a picture of their favorite wildlife in our local eco-system on an 8 ½” x 11” sheet of paper and submit their entry to either store location by Friday, March 25. Submissions will be split into two groupings, one for five to eight-year-olds and one for nine to twelve-year-olds. Public viewing and judging will take place in the stores from Monday, March 28 through Friday, April 15, and all winners will be announced on Earth Day, Friday, April 22.   • A Zumba Class will be offered at Gaudet Middle School on Wednesday, March 23. The program is open to the public ages 18 and older. The classes are taught by Johanna Lovelace. The cost is $7. For more information, contact Carmela Greer at 418-0071 or cgeer@mpsri.net.
  • An English Language Learners Family Night and Parent Advisory Meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, March 24 at the Gaudet Learning Academy from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event is open to all Middletown School English Language Learners and their families.

MIDDLETOWN HIGH SCHOOL

  • The MHS Student vs. Faculty Basketball game will take place on Wednesday, March 23 at 6 p.m. in the MHS gymnasium.
  • The MHS Site Council will meet on Thursday, March 24 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in Room 6. All MHS parents, students, and teachers are welcome to attend the meeting.
  • MHS will hold a Hawaiian School Dance for MHS Seniors on Friday, March 25 in the MHS Café from 8 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $8.

GAUDET MIDDLE SCHOOL

  • The Builder's Club will meet on Tuesday, March 22 from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. This community service program is presented by the Kiwanis Club in an effort to teach students the benefits of giving back to their community.   • The BEEP Planetarium program will meet on Tuesday, March 22 after school.
  • Mentors for the Moment will meet on Tuesday, March 22 and Thursday, March 24 after school.

AQUIDNECK SCHOOL

  • Aquidneck School will hold Spirit Week from Monday, March 21 through Friday, March 25. Students are requested to wear the following on each day:
    • Monday-Blue and White Day
    • Tuesday- Mix and Match Day
    • Wednesday- PJ Day
    • Thursday- Creative Hat Day        
    • Friday- Wear Red Day
  • Grammy Nominated artist RED Grammer has been scheduled to perform two concerts at Aquidneck School on Friday, March 25 in celebration of the students’ work on character development. Aquidneck School has made the artist’s song “Be Bop Your Best” their school theme song this year.
  • Friday, March 25 is the last day for the Pennies for Patients campaign.

FOREST AVENUE SCHOOL

  • Students in grades 1 to 3 are welcome to register for Calling All Chefs, an afterschool cooking class, on Wednesday, March 23. Pre-registration is required and the cost is $25 per class. For more information, contact cgeer@mpsri.net.
  • The Forest Avenue School Improvement Team will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23 in the Forest Avenue Library. All teachers and parents of Forest Avenue students are welcome to attend this monthly meeting.
  • The Forest Avenue Talent Show and Family Dinner will take place on Thursday, March 24 at 6 p.m. in the Gaudet Middle School Cafeteria.  All Forest Avenue families and staff are welcome to attend.
  •  Friday, March 25 is the last day for the Pennies for Patients campaign.
