La Salle Tops RI Football Poll

The La Salle Rams capture 10 of the 12 first place votes in the second week of the Rhode Island Sports Media Football Poll. Middletown remains outside the poll.

Following an early season victory against the No. 1 Hendricken Hawks, the La Salle Rams have vaulted into the top spot of the Rhode Island Sports Media Football Poll.

La Salle has been dominant in its two games so far this year, a 34-7 win against Division III Rogers, and this past weekend, a 39-14 win against the Hawks. Hendricken fell to No. 5 in the polls with the loss.

East Providence moved up a spot, to No. 2, with a 48-14 win against North Kingstown. The Skippers are the sole Division I team to not be ranked, and they also did not receive a single vote for the Top 20.

Cranston West jumped two spots to No. 3, thanks to a 20-15 win against Barrington. The Eagles fell from No. 4 to No. 6.

Portsmouth shifted up to No. 4, thanks to the loses by Barrington and Hendricken. The Patriots beat No. 13 Cranston East 21-14. East moved up from No. 16 to No. 13 with the one-touchdown defeat.

South Kingstown did not play, and as a result, lost one spot in the rankings, as Division II Central leapfrogged them. The Rebels are currently ranked No. 9.

Tied with Cranston East at No. 13 is Division III Rogers. The Vikings crushed Burrillville 47-12.

At No. 15 is Johnston, who won 22-14 against an unranked Coventry team. Johnston moved up three spots with the win.

Mt. Hope dropped two spots, from No. 14 to No. 16, because of a close loss to No. 7 West Warwick.

Woonsocket is on the cusp of the poll, with 23 points, two behind No. 20 Moses Brown. (17), Coventry (5) and Narragansett (5) also received votes.
