The school also nabbed a Silver Award from US News & World Report as it was ranked 1,504th nationally.

Middletown High School is the fifth-best high school in Rhode Island, according to US News & World Report's recently-released rankings of the country's high schools.

The school earned high marks for its high participation rate among students in advanced placement courses, with a rate of 41 percent.

The school also nabbed a Silver Award from US News & World Report as it was ranked 1,504th nationally.

Data from the report shows Middletown High School has a "college readiness" score of 25.8, which is above the state average. Eighty-nine percent of students tested proficient in reading and 54 percent tested proficient in mathematics.

With the fifth-place ranking, Middletown edged out dozens of other schools across Rhode Island, some which scored higher in some categories. But the high number of students enrolled in AP courses, coupled with a lower-than-average student to teacher ratio, boosted the school's ranking into the top five.
