Naval War College Welcomes RI Native as President

The U.S. Naval War College will soon be helmed by a Rhode Island native, as Rear Adm. Walter E. “Ted” Carter Jr. of Burrillville is scheduled for formal installation as president on July 2.
Rear Adm. John N. Christenson, who served as president since March, 2011, will be taking a new post as deputy U.S. military representative to the NATO Military Committee in Brussels, Belgium, according to a release from the college.Carter was previously the director for the Navy’s Twenty-first Century Sailor Office and commander of the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command, and his prior service at sea includes stints with the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group 12 , USS Carl Vinson and USS Camden.
The incoming president holds the current record for aircraft carrier landings with 2,016, and has logged more than 6,000 flight hours in F-4, F-14, and F-18 aircraft.
A change of command ceremony is scheduled for July 2, at 10 a.m. in the college’s Spruance Hall auditorium.
