Scholarship Run, Sports Schedule, Teacher Appreciation Luncheons, Terrific Kids

Here's a look at what's happening in Middletown schools for the week of May 2-7.

From the high school sports lineup to Tween Yoga, assemblies and more, here's a look at what's happening in Middletown schools this week.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

New student registration for all students not currently enrolled in Middletown Public Schools is open. To register, parents must call the administration office at 401-849-2122 to make an appointment. The child being registered does not need to be present. Appointments are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration forms can be found online.

MIDDLETOWN HIGH SCHOOL

  • The MHS Program of Studies for 2011-2012 has been released and can be seen in the attached file.
  • There are several college scholarships with application deadlines that have not yet passed. Check out the complete listing of the scholarships, where to find the applications, and their deadlines here.

GAUDET MIDDLE SCHOOL

  • The Builder’s Club will meet on Tuesday, May 3 from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. This community service program is presented by the Kiwanis Club in an effort to teach students the benefits of giving back to their community and will continue through May 25. This extracurricular activity is free and open to GMS students in grades 5 through 8. Registration is required. For more information, contact Carmela Geer at cgeer@mpsri.net or 418-0071.
  • Mentors for the Moment will meet on Tuesday, May 3 and Thursday, May 5 after school in the GMS Library. Members of the MHS National Honor Society will be on hand to help students in grades 5 through 8 with homework. Computer access will also be available. Registration is required.   • The Tween Yoga Program for students in grades 4 through 8 starts this Monday, May 2 and runs each Monday through May 30. It will be taught by Martina Aldrich. Pre-registration is required. The cost of the five week program is $50. For more information, contact Carmela Geer at cgeer@mspri.net.

AQUIDNECK SCHOOL

  • There will be a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, May 5.

FOREST AVENUE SCHOOL

  • Students in grades 2 and 3 will attend an assembly entitled Musica Dolce in the cafeteria on Wednesday, May 4 at 1:30 p.m.
  • A Teacher Appreciation Lunch will be held on Thursday, May 5 sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Group.
  • The Forest Avenue School PTG will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 5. All parents and teachers are welcome.
  • The Terrific Kids program will be held on Thursday, May 5 at 7 p.m.

ALL SAINTS ACADEMY

  • A Mom's Lunch will be held with a Cinqo de Mayo theme on Thursday, May 5.
  • The 1st Annual Scholarship Run for ASA will take place Saturday, May 7 in Portsmouth. The 5-mile run will start in Common Fence Point or participants can choose to do the one mile Family Walk. The proceeds will go to ASA students in need of tuition assistance. See attached registration form for more information.

  • The MHS Freshman Baseball Team will compete against Warwick Veterans High School on Monday, May 2 at 3:30 p.m.
  • The MHS Varsity Baseball Team will compete against Barrington High School on Tuesday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m.
  • The MHS Boys Varsity Tennis Team will compete against Coventry High School on Tuesday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m.
  • The MHS Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team will compete against Providence Country Day School on Tuesday, May 3 at 6 p.m.
  • The MHS Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team will compete against Pilgrim High School on Wednesday, May 4 at 6 p.m.
  • The MHS Girls Junior Varsity Lacrosse Team will compete against Pilgrim High School on Wednesday, May 4 at 4:30 p.m.
  • The MHS Varsity Baseball Team will compete against Chariho High School on Thursday, May 5 at 4 p.m.
  • The MHS Girls Varsity Softball Team will compete against Mount Hope High School on Thursday, May 5 at 4 p.m.
  • The MHS Varsity Baseball Team will compete against Smithfield High School on Friday, May 6 at 4 p.m.
  • The MHS Girls Junior Varsity Softball Team will compete against North Kingstown High School on Friday, May 6 at 4 p.m.
  • The MHS Girls Varsity Softball Team will compete against North Kingstown High School on Friday, May 6 at 6 p.m.
  • The MHS Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team will compete against Tiverton High School on Friday, May 6 at 6 p.m.
  • The MHS Girls Junior Varsity Softball Team will compete against Pilgrim High School on Saturday, May 7 at 11 a.m.
