On this 11th anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11, we invite you to follow in the footsteps of a hero.

The Rhode Island Blue Star Moms, in conjunction with The North Kingstown Fire Fighters Association IAFF Local 1651 and the North Kingstown Fire Department are pleased to host The Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers 5K Run– North Kingstown, RI.

The Steven Siller “Tunnel To Towers” Run is a 5K run that annually memorializes those that were lost during the tragic events of 9/11. Steven Siller was a member of FDNY, and was on his way home to Brooklyn following his night shift at the firehouse when the first plane struck the World Trade Center. Upon hearing the news, he turned his vehicle around and tried to get back to the station, but at that point the Battery Tunnel was blocked with traffic.

Steven proceeded to abandon his vehicle, strap his gear to his back and run the roughly three-mile distance to reach the WTC. He reached his destination and joined in the efforts to help those in need, only to lose his life later that day when the Towers fell.
In recognition of Steven Siller’s ultimate sacrifice, as well as a remembrance of all those lost on September 11, 2001, The Steven Siller “Tunnel To Towers” Run was created.   It is held every year in New York City, and garners thousands of participants annually from around the world. As we solemnly mark the 10th anniversary of that tragic day, satellite races are being held around the country.

The Rhode Island Blue Star Moms, North Kingstown Fire Fighters Association IAFF Local 1651, and the North Kingstown Fire Department are extremely proud and honored to be hosting the only Rhode Island event.
