NRF to Host Free Open House at Prescott Farm

The NRF will host an open house tonight between 4 and 6 p.m.

Go back in time this evening with the Newport Restoration Foundation (NRF) at an open house at .  The event will be held between the hours of 4 and 6 p.m. 

The NRF will introduce new interpretive signs on the property which inform reader of the inner workings of the 1812 Windmill.  The signs also provide information about the capture of General Prescott during the Revolutionary War and showcase the kitchen and herb gardens maintained by University of Rhode Island (URI) Master Gardeners.

The program will include an introduction to the signs, period games,  windmill tour, johnny cake and refreshments.  In addition, the URI Master Gardeners will be on hand to discuss the plantings.  

Prescott Farm is open daily to the public from dawn until dusk.   Can't make the event? Here is a list of future events at the farm!

Garden Help and Soil Testing:
Bring soil samples from your garden or yard to receive a basic analysis by URI Master Gardeners. Gardeners are also available to answer your gardening questions.

Windmill Wednesdays:
Have you always wanted to see the inside of the 1812 Prescott Farm windmill? Now is your chance at this open house! Explore how this amazing machine works and learn about the importance of grist milling on Aquidneck Island. Enjoy a family-friendly evening with johnnycake tasting and hands-on activities for kids.

Last Wednesday of the month, June-September 4:00-6:00 pm /$5 per person, children 12 and under free. Please note: Windmill will not be in full operation due to safety and preservation concerns.

Stone Wall Workshop:
Learn to build and repair traditional stone walls in this hands-on experience. Join master class instructors Chris and Dan Smith for their eighth year of this active workshop.

Beehive Tour and Honey Tasting:
Come tour the bee hives at Prescott Farm with beekeeper Jeff Mello of Aquidneck Honey. Learn about the art and science of beekeeping. Enjoy tasty samples of this local honey along with homemade johnnycakes.
