Service Dog Named After Fallen Middletown Soldier to be Presented to Local Veteran Tonight

The dog will be officially presented to Stephen Frye of Newport at Tuesday's night's Pawsox game.

On Thursday, combat wounded veteran Steve Frye of Newport attended a Memorial Service at the 10th Mountain Division in Fort Drum, New York, along with his recently issued service dog, according to a prepared announcement from the American Legion Post 18-Portsmouth.

The balance walker/PTSD Certified Service Dog, Charlie Zino, was named in honor of , a life-long resident of Middletown, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in November 2010.  Sgt. Paranzino’s family also attended the ceremony. 

Charlie Zino will be officially presented to Frye by trainer Cynthia Kindell of Warren on Tuesday night during the pre-game ceremonies at the 32nd Annual Armed Services Night at McCoy Stadium. Many of Sgt. Paranzino’s family members and fellow soldiers from his unit will be in attendance for the presentation, according to the announcement.
