Middletown Weekend: Comedy, Improv, Concerts, All-Star Baseball

There's a packed schedule of events around Middletown this weekend — check out the list and take your pick!

What are you planning to do this weekend in Middletown?

The forecast for Aug. 16 through 18 is for clear skies and comfortable temperatures — so choose an event and get out and enjoy!

At the Newport Yachting Center Newport Summer Concert Series continues Friday night at 7 with Katt Williams, and Ron White on Sunday.

. Shows are 16+. Prices are $56.70 and $66.70 for Katt Williams and $49.70 ad $61.70 for Ron White. Prices include Ticketmaster fees.

Also on Friday night, the Bit Players host Live Improv at the Firehouse Theater starting at 8 p.m. Tix are $15, and every show is BYOB. Reserve tickets by calling (401) 849-3473.

And over at Newport Grand, Haywire takes the stage on Friday night at 9 p.m. with a high-caliber country show. 18+. Free.

Newport Art Museum is holding a Wet Paint Art Auction this weekend, beginning with artist registration on Saturday morning from 8 to 10 a.m. Drop-off is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and apreview reception [$15; $10 for members; free for artists and a guest] is set for 6 to 8 p.m.

Want to get your hands on some of the art? Attend the silent auction from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, followed by a live auction of the top 50 works on Sunday at 5 p.m. 

If you're looking for a more Polynesian feel, head over to Fort Adams State Park on Saturday from 4:30 to 10 p.m. for the 15th Annual Newport Storm Luau.

Roz Rasking and the Rice Cakes, the Torn Shorts, authentic Polynesian dances, and The Fire Gypsy are all part of the day's scheduled entertainment.

And, of course, there'll be food, Newport Storm beer and Thomas Tew Mai Tais.

Online ticket sales are closed; a limited number of tix available at the door for $15. Proceeds benefit the Fort Adams Trust. Strictly 21+, valid ID required for entry.

For a bit more of a relaxed pace — though there's sure to be friendly rivalry on show — check out the George Donnelly Sunset League all star game at Cardines Field, where the local Sunset Stars host the FDNY squad. Free.

At Newport Grand on Saturday night, the World Gone Crazy Comedy Band brings their mix of humor and rock to the stage at 9 p.m. Free.

On Sunday, wrap the weekend with the NIMFest Concert featuring Slippery Sneakers zydeco band. Held at King Park gazebo, Wellington Avenue. Free concert presented by the City of Newport with a grant from Mrs. Dorrance H. Hamilton.
