Walk Against Food Allergies This Weekend

A Food Allergy Research & Education's Walk is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 22 at Fort Adams State Park from 9 a.m to 12 p.m.

The 2013 Newport, RI FARE Walk takes place this Sunday, Sept. 22 at Fort Adams State Park. The walk is family-friendly that takes place in communities nationwide to fund food allergy research, education, advocacy and awareness.

“A food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency room every three minutes” said John L. Lehr, chief executive officer of FARE.

A Middletown teenager’s personal experiences with food allergies inspired legislation to make Rhode Island restaurants safer for individuals with food allergies. See the sisters, Danielle and Lauren Mongeau, talk about their experiences on the Discovery Channel here (beginning at 33:50.)
