Can I get a "get out of work" note to watch corn grow? Much more exciting than soccer.
RI Teabagger June 26, 2014 at 12:59 pm
I'd rather be watching Fox News. Besides, we already beat Germany when it counted.

What? next the Cheerleaders will be required to wear helmets, kneepads, elbow pads and chestRead More protectors.

High school cheer has 4:seasons 1. Football season 2. Basketball season 3. Competition season 4.Read More Summer for camp Allstar teams cheer all year round. If a high school cheerleader doesn't like cheering games then maybe high school cheer Isn't for her. Allstar might be better. It is very important to keep that tradition of cheering at games. cheerleading is more than justttt competition . Cheerleaders bring school spirit to the school at EVERY event. Thats their main job as a high school cheerleader.
Sandy Farias June 19, 2014 at 01:18 pm
Whether someone is being judged for skill or points should not affect whether something is a sportRead More or not. Cheering is as competitive as any sport yet more dangerous as the squad does not wear safety equipment such as helmets or pads. They have mats that break their fall. The cheer squads practice and train vigorously endurance, stamina and winning makes these teams work hard...just like any other sport.

Parents ruin sports..
sportsnut July 14, 2014 at 07:39 am
Alan I agree. Parents coach to get their kids and kids friends a leg up. Kids are choosen too basedRead More on parents and kids being friends. Take AAU and All-Stars and positions in each sport. Parents coach because they want their kid in prime positions, kids are friends with certain kids or because a family does not like someone but the kid has talent not playing. You need "out of area" coaches to come and determine if a kid is "that good" to be at the next level not "locals" whom coach because that is the only way the kid will get playing time.

People, remember -- There are FOUR subway lines that go into the Downtown Crossing / Back Bay area.Read More You don't HAVE to take the Green Line. The ORANGE line goes to Back Bay Station, and it's pretty centrally located. Also, consider watching the Marathon from a less-populated area, such as Framingham / Newton / Needham. The runner will appreciate it, and so will the security folks.
Heather A. McDonald April 19, 2014 at 09:36 am
Newton -home of Heartbreak Hill & Boston College is a very popular / exciting locale to cheer onRead More the runners- youll be disappointed if you go to Needham as it is not on the marathon route - Wellesley yes!

Brew April 3, 2014 at 08:34 am
Oh yeah and to others... telling a person they are "what is wrong with this country"Read More because they hold a different opinion that you is what is wrong with this country. It shows a level if intolerance equal to racism, the division is just along slightly different lines. Many of you should be ashamed and embarrassed that you can't see that very plain fact. Take a few minutes to think about things instead of being so damned reactionary.

Anyone who coaches and is good at it knows that parents will try and advocate for their kids.Read More That's human nature. The administration has to step in and support their coaches who need protecting. There is very little the parents can do it this is the situation. That being said good coaches are not always supported by the principal. Coaches today have to have thick skin to make a difference. Unless you are a track coach and the kid who finishes first is the best for all to see
catwoman March 31, 2014 at 05:06 pm
Agree Rick. But parent coaches in the schools are a joke.

@Shutterbug, it would seem that Joe Mariani is entirely correct. From the Boston Big Game FishingRead More website "During the 2008 Monster Shark Tournament, 202 vessels retained a total of 26 sharks after two days of fishing." and this, "The Monster Shark Tournament participants have historically released over 97% of the total number of sharks that are caught during the two day fishing event"
Cara Lane March 4, 2014 at 08:46 pm
I have personal experience with this tournament. It occurred (past tense, fortunately) within stepsRead More from where I live in OB. The rules are that undersized sharks be caught and released. But the rules are broken. Many boats in the harbor display their bloody dead sharks, some showing off just the jaws from the decapitated. The crowds of heavy drinkers do frequent the bars on the harbor but they certainly do not appreciate the food nor the finer establishments both the Vineyard and Newport have to offer. They leave more strewn waste than that leftover by a college frat house after a long weekend. As a server who relies quite heavily on tourists during the summer months, I usually welcome visitors. But as I said in my prior post, this sort of attraction really will downmarket the city.
Shutterbug ! March 5, 2014 at 10:24 am
Cara, you have just added justification for my concerns regarding this shark fishing tournament.Read More Even with the best of intentions, rules ARE broken! Sadly, it reminds me of the shooting tournaments in the early 1900's, whereby scores of participants got together to see how many passenger pigeons they could shoot out of the sky. We all know the result of that debacle. I can't think of anything more decadent than killing, not for food or protection, but for pleasure!!! I thought that we had overcome man's basest traits, but evidently not. I intend to boycott Newport should this be allowed.
