Sarah McKenzie Pener, 92: Retiree from Newport Schools

Mrs. Pener also served in the WAAC during World War II.

  Sarah McKenzie Pener, 92, of Newport, went gracefully into the arms of the Lord on June 11, 2013, with her devoted daughter Sarah and niece Carol by her side. She was blessed by the loving care she was given by the staff of the Grand Islander Center in Middletown and Beacon Hospice. Affectionately called "Sis", she was born in Newport on January 26, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Sarah Jackson Walker and Louis Walker Sr. of Newport and the sister of the late Louis Walker Jr., Eleanor Keys and Bessie Roberts of Newport. Born in Little Rock, AK, on Nov. 2, 1939, she was the daughter of the late William and Mattie Dilworth. Amy [Tasker] Anderson, 87: Bookkeeper at the Newport Naval Base

Born in Newport, RI, on March 29, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Everett John and Amy (Card) Tasker. Frank "Teddy" Combs Jr., 72: Food and Wine Enthusiast

The Middletown resident worked as a mold maker for ABAPGT Inc., in Manchester, CT.

Teddy Combs, 72, of Prospect Avenue, Middletown, passed away at home on Sunday, June 2, 2013. He was the husband of Susan Blakeley Combs Born in Pittsfield, MA on November 20, 1940, he was the son of the late Frank Calvin Combs and Anna Irene (Furey) Combs. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 11 am in the Hambly Funeral Home, 30 Red Cross Ave., Newport. Calling hours will be held Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 pm. Retired MFD Lieutenant Dies at 82

Raymond Gould , a retired Middletown Fire Department Lieutenant, died at age 82 Friday.

Raymond Gould, 82, of Middletown, died Friday, May 17, 2013, at Pine Grove Health Center, Pascoag, RI. Born in Newport, RI on March 25, 1931, he was the husband of Dorothy (Chaves) Gould and the son of the late Ralph and Katharine (Chase) Gould. Raymond served 8 years in the National Guard. He was a Lieutenant in the Middletown Fire Department and retired after 26 years. He also worked for 10 years for Looking Upwards, a group home in Middletown, and thoroughly enjoyed being around the kids. Woodworking and photography were among his many hobbies.   Lynne M. Smith, 96, of Middletown, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at St. Clare Home Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Robert Smith. Born in Fall River, MA on January 22, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Dziedic) Mikolazyk. She was employed as an optometric assistant with Dr. Peter Eudenbach, OD for many years. She was an avid gardener and talented seamstress. World War II, Korean War Veteran Dies at Age 84

Richard D. Boiani, 84, of Newport, died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Newport Hospital.

  Richard D. Boiani, 84, of Newport, died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Lorraine Anne (Lamarre) Boiani. Boiani was a 1946 graduate of Rogers High School. After school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving two different times once in Italy, during World War II and then re-enlisted during the Korean War.   Margaret (Devine) Kilmer, 87, of Oak Street, died Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Village House Nursing Home, Newport. She was the wife of the late Victor J. Kilmer. Born in Woonsocket, on Feb. 15, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Francis J. and Theresa V. (Gilbert) Devine. Peg began work as a bookkeeper for the former Lincoln Store on Thames Street. After raising her family in Middletown, she went back to work as a clerk in the Middletown Public Schools. Hillie “Boats” Ackerman, 91, of Portsmouth, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Newport Hospital surrounded by his family.

Hillie “Boats” Ackerman, 91, of Portsmouth, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Newport Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Betty (Hodgkins) Ackerman. Mr. Ackerman was in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War and after 27 years of service retired as a BMCM. He went on to work at the Navy base in special services as superintendent and was in charge of the marina periodically as well.
