Nicholas King, of 1474 Wapping Rd, was arrested on Sunday around 1:30 p.m. after he was involved in an accident and allegedly left the scene. The 26-year-old was charged with driving with a suspended license, failure to maintain proper control of a vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident. According to police reports, King left a party around 2:15 s.m. the previous night. He reportedly swerved to avoid an animal, lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole. His car reportedly stopped on a stone wall in front of 811 Mitchells Ln. King told police that he walked home and went to sleep. The Middletown Police Department said after several attempts to locate King, he responded to the headquarters at 12:45 p.m. and was arrested …

Detective Walter Mey will be recognized by NAPO for his quick arrest after a stabbing last March.
On March 29, 2011, the Middletown Police Department was searching for a suspect who had repeatedly stabbed a woman in the parking lot of a local hotel. Detective Walter C. Mey joined the hunt. Mey soon found the suspect sitting in the victim’s car at the Third Beach parking lot. The detective chased him by car and on foot, and finally ran him down and took him into custody. For his participation in the quick capture of the suspect, the Middletown Police Detective will be honored this Saturday by the National Association of Police Organizations. A Virginia man and his 80-year-old father are set to be arraigned today on federal charges in connection with an alleged U.S. Navy kickbacks scheme. Ralph Mariano of Virginia and his father, Ralph Mariano Jr. of North Providence, will appear this afternoon in federal court, reports The Providence Journal. Mariano, 53, of Arlington, VA, a former engineer with the U.S. Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), is accused of accepting bribes as a public official from Portsmouth resident Russell E. Spencer. Mariano allegedly accepted kickbacks of naval funds from Advanced Solutions for Tomorrow (ASFT), a Middletown company. His father also faces tax charges, according to The Providence Journal.

Thirteen Salve Regina University students were issued citations for underage drinking on Sunday morning around 1:45 a.m when Middletown Police responded to a party at 101 A Briarwood Ave. The Middletown Fire Department took 20-year-old Brianna Ottati, who lives at the home, to Newport Hospital after police reportedly could not wake her up. Margaret Jones, 19, was also transported to Newport Hospital because police said she had difficulty functioning function and she allegedly recorded a .206 on a Breathalyzer exam. Police later responded to the hospital to issue Ottati a violation of the municipal social host ordinance. Residents gathered on the streets of Middletown and Newport on Sunday afternoon to show support for our country's finest at the 29th annual Aquidneck Island National Police Parade. The parade honors police officers who were killed in the line of duty. This year's Grand Marshal was Robert Shaw, father of slain Providence Police officer Steven Shaw, who was shot by a robber in 1994. Also honored at the parade was Providence Police Sergeant Maxwell Dorley, who died in a police cruiser crash last month. The crowd was entertained by the Rhode Island Highlander Pipe and Drum Band, the Newport AOH Pipe and Drum Band, the U.S. Navy Band as well as the Middletown Cheerleaders. Two man accused of vandalizing hundreds of graves at Island Cemetery in Newport have had their charges dropped, according to a report from WPRI. A judge dismissed charges against Andrew Fowler, 20, and Richard Mounts, 37, because a third man involved in the incident was not able to be located, the report says. The dismissal comes a year after police arrested Ramon Fulvi, 23, and Mounts on felony desecration of graves charges. Approximately 238 headstones, grave stones and statues had been damaged in the incident, resulting in $125,000 of damage. Fulvi and Mounts were then arraigned at the 2nd Division District Court on May 12, 2011. In July 2011, a law was approved stating that those who deface cemeteries or public monuments will face …

Man Run Over Trying to Stop Driver An allegedly drunk driver pulled into Metacomet Country Club in East Providence and one vigilant citizen decided he would not let him leave. Following the erratic driver's Dodge into the country club parking lot, the man stood in front of the vehicle to take down his license plate number and corral it until officers arrived, according to police. That's when the drunk driver allegedly drove his vehicle into the man's leg, breaking a front light and sending the him onto the hood of the car. The man allegedly tried to grab the windshield wiper for support but fell to the ground. A witness came to help and a fight ensued. Police arrived and placed the drunk driver in the back of a cruiser, and he reportedly …
An elderly woman was extracted from her vehicle yesterday after she was involved in an accident which trapped her inside the car.
Yesterday, a motor vehicle accident trapped an elderly woman inside her car until the Middletown Fire Department used “Jaws of Life”, the department's extrication equipment to open the door. The accident occurred on the corner of Miantonomi and Boulevard around 11:15 a.m. Her sedan was reportedly hit on the driver’s side by a truck, which caused substantial structural damage. The department said that neither door was operable. The woman did not appear to have life threatening injuries, said the MFD. She was taken to Newport Hospital. The driver of pickup declined treatment.

Barrington police were called last Wednesday evening to question a young man getting out of a row boat at a private dock in Barrington who used the vessel without permission. The man admitted it was not his boat, which is owned by a Warren man. He said “the current in the river was too strong” and he could not return the boat to the other side, police said. He was looking for a ride back to his cousin’s house. Barrington police said the man was from New York and was visiting a cousin in Warren. He took the boat to simply go for a ride across the river, police said. The owner of the boat did not want to press charges after it was returned to him. It could have been a deadly …
