Founded in 1964, the center is financed through federal, state and municipal funds, special grants, client fees, Medicaid, private insurance reimbursements and donations. Local-state matching grants also assist in providing subsidized free care.
Programs included outpatient care, emergency services, substance abuse treatment, children and adolescent treatment, child intensive services, community support services and adult residential services.
Newport County Community Mental Health Center operates four offices sites in Middletown and nine residential programs and facilities. This Johnny Cake Hill Road location houses the center's main administrative offices.
