5 Things to Know On-the-Go: What Happened to the 7-Eleven?

1. Where's the 7-Eleven? The 7-Eleven convenience store on West Main Road quietly packed up over the long holiday weekend and closed for good. A company spokesperson told Patch this week that the store was "underperforming" and "no longer a profitable location." The lease for that location had expired at the end of September, she said. Three other 7-Eleven stores remain nearby at 726 Aquidneck Ave., Middletown, as well as two locations in Newport at 29 Memorial Blvd and 135 JT Connell Highway. ___________________ 2. 1. Toy Drive to Benefit Child & Family Services The Newport Fire Department has begun their 5th Annual Toy Drive, which kicked off Sunday Nov. 28, and runs through Dec. 19. For the last three years, the NFD has worked with Child & Family Services to get donations to local families in need. After a long holiday weekend that might have included lots of calories, shopping stress and all around sensory overload, returning to work on Monday gets a little easier with a relaxing yoga class in a serene natural setting to cap off the day. Set at the Norman Bird Sanctuary, the class focuses on breathing, stretching and strengthening the body as well as calming the mind with beginning meditation exercises. This class is suitable for all ages and abilities. Participants are invited to bring their own yoga mat and wear comfortable exercise clothing. A few extra mats are available if needed. Instructor Diana McCallister is a certified yoga teacher registered with the Yoga Alliance. She teaches yoga for adults and children at several …
