Rhode Island prosecutors are scheduled to notify Newport County Superior Court and the defendant Friday morning.
Prosecutors will seek a prison life sentence with no chance of parole for accused killer Zachary Lepelusa, according to an announcement made by the Office of Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin. Prosecutors are scheduled to go before a judge in Newport County Superior Court Friday morning to serve official notification of their intent to seek such a sentence if Lepelusa is convicted. Lepelusa, 24, of Milford, CT., is expected to be present during the court proceeding. He is tied to the March 29 murder and kidnapping of Antoinette Vendetti Bruce in Middletown. Zachary Joseph Lepelusa, 24, of Milford, CT, was arrested on March 29 for the alleged stabbing death and kidnapping of Antoinette Venditti Bruce, a Connecticut woman who was in Middletown, RI on business at the time.
Zachary Lepelusa, 24, of Milford, CT., was arraigned in Newport County Superior Court on Thursday and continues to be held without bail in connection with the March 29 stabbing death of Antoinette Venditti Bruce, the New Haven Register reports. A statewide Grand Jury last week indicted Lepelusa on one count of murder, one count of kidnapping and one count of eluding the police. Lepelusa has been held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institution (ACI) in Cranston since his arrest. The New England Association of Chiefs of Police has awarded the Medal of Valor to Middletown Police Detective Walter Mey for his pursuit and apprehension of a murder suspect.

On Sept. 13, 2011, the New England Association of Chiefs of Police, (NEACOP), awarded the Medal of Valor to Middletown Police Detective Walter Mey. The medal was presented to Detective Mey by the NEACOP President, Chief Thomas M. Hanley of the Middlebury, Vermont Police Department at the association’s annual meeting in North Falmouth, MA, according to an announcement issued by the Middletown Police Department. The New England Association of Chiefs’ of Police and the Medal of Valor Award Program have notified the Middletown Police Department that Detective Walter C. Mey Jr. has been chosen to receive the prestigious award, according to an announcement released by Middletown Police Chief Anthony Pesare. In a letter from the Association, Chief Kevin J. Hale, awards committee chairman wrote, “The actions of this officer on March 29, 2011 were outstanding. This officer acted without hesitation and without regard for his own safety in trying to find and save a gravely injured and kidnapped woman.
