Middletown Police arrested one motorist on New Year's Eve on drunken-driving charges. Police pulled over 38-year-old Osvaldo Powell, of 4 Center St., Bristol, for speeding and swerving on West Main Road. Osvaldo told police he was on his way home to Bristol from Newport, where he had a couple of drinks. He failed the field sobriety tests and was arrested. Thirteen Salve Regina University students were issued citations for underage drinking on Sunday morning around 1:45 a.m when Middletown Police responded to a party at 101 A Briarwood Ave. The Middletown Fire Department took 20-year-old Brianna Ottati, who lives at the home, to Newport Hospital after police reportedly could not wake her up. Margaret Jones, 19, was also transported to Newport Hospital because police said she had difficulty functioning function and she allegedly recorded a .206 on a Breathalyzer exam. Police later responded to the hospital to issue Ottati a violation of the municipal social host ordinance. The Middletown Police Department reported the following arrests from the weekend of Saturday, Oct. 15 to early Monday, Oct. 17: Felony Drug Possession Cameron Michael Taylor, 20, of 25 Dexter St., Portsmouth, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. early Sunday morning on a felony charge of possessing a controlled drug substance and a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. According to the arrest report, police stopped his car on West Main Road near Prescott Farm after clocking it at speeds of 51 to 60 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. The Middletown Police Department reported the following recent arrests: Marijuana Possession, Underage Possession of Alcohol Johanally Matta, 19, of 237 Park Holm, Newport, was arrested around 9:10 p.m. Saturday evening on a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession and underage possession of alcohol. According to the arrest report, police stopped the car she was driving near the intersection of Beacon and Peace streets for not having a visible registration plate. As the police officer approached the car, he was able to see a temporary registration in the rear window. The Middletown Police Department reported the following recent arrests: Heroin possession Joshua B. Campbell, 26, of 45 Marion Ave., Narragansett, was arrested around 6:39 p.m. Tuesday night on a felony charge of heroin possession. According to the arrest report, Middletown police and fire department rescue workers had responded to the parking lot at West Marine on West Main Road for a report of man in a car not breathing. Campbell was doing chest compressions on the unconscious man when emergency workers arrived, ordered him to stop and took over treatment for what first appeared to be a seizure. The details are as follows: The Rhode Island State Police, through funding obtained by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, Office on Highway Safety, will have additional patrols targeting seat belt and child restraint violations, texting violations and especially impaired drivers. The Middletown Police Department reported the following recent arrests: Vandalism Sharon Anne Dwyer, 62, of 47 Wyndham Hill Road, Middletown, was arrested around 1:45 p.m. Thursday on a misdemeanor charge of vandalism. According to the arrest report, Dwyer allegedly “keyed” a car belonging to another woman in the BJ’s Wholesale Club parking lot.The incident occurred after one woman opened her car door and it bumped the car next to hers, resulting in no damage to either car but sparking a brief verbal exchange between the two women, according to the arrest report. Michael Vieira, 24, of 91 School St., Apt. B, Everett, MA, was arrested around 3:17 p.m. Sunday afternoon on misdemeanor charges of domestic simple assault and vandalism. According to the Middletown Police Department arrest report, officers responded to a report of an injured woman in the bathroom at the Atlantic Beach Club. Upon arrival police found a 21-year-old woman from Everett, MA, with a small laceration on the back of her head. The woman would not provide a statement to police but witnesses told police that Vieira pulled her hair during an argument and that Vieira threw a cell phone at the back of her head. DUI, Marijuana Charges Thomas E. Folcarelli, 54, of 121 Gibbs St., Newport, was arrested around 1:55 a.m. Wednesday on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of marijuana, both misdemeanor first offenses. According to the arrest report, a Middletown police officer stopped his car in the 500 block of Valley Road. He was charged with both DUI and marijuana possession following a field sobriety test and after a patdown conducted at the scene allegedly turned up a small plastic bag with pot.
