Gaudet Middle School Students Compete in Black History Bowl

Gaudet Middle School students competed against students from Thompson Middle School in Newport and Portsmouth Middle School in the 16th Annual Black History Bowl on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

About 100 people gathered in the Thompson Middle School cafeteria on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to compete in the 16th Annual Black History Bowl. Coordinated by the Newport County NAACP Branch, (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) the event brought Aquidneck Islanders of all ages and races. The event kicked off at 3 p.m. in honor of George Triplett, Former Newport School Committee Chairperson, who received a Certificate of Appreciation in honor of his service from 1995-2010. After a few thankful words from Triplett, the students competing were introduced.
