New Middletown DMV Branch Clears Zoning Hurdle to Open in November
The Middletown Zoning Board of Review on Tuesday night granted a variance to allow for 16 additional parking spaces for the new permanent DMV branch, to be located about a block from the former Valley Road location.
A vote of approval from the Middletown Zoning Board of Review on Tuesday night has paved the way for the state Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to set up a new permanent branch in Middletown with a five-year lease. The new DMV branch will move into the shopping plaza at the corner of East Main and Valley roads, into the space currently occupied by the Piano Gallery of Rhode Island. To accommodate the extra traffic and business, landlord and property owner Kenneth Alves plans to turn the vacant lot next door on Valley Road into a parking lot. The customer’s entrance to the DMV will be located on the west or backside of the shopping plaza, while the employees’ entrance will be located within the shopping plaza itself, he said.
