MFD Put Out Structural Fire Tuesday Afternoon

The fire broke out early this afternoon

As voters walked into the polling booths at Gaudet Middle School on Tuesday around 12:30 p.m., there was a black cloud above them that had nothing to do with politics. The black cloud was literal, caused by a small structural fire at 1 Paul Avenue.   The fire started in the shed, which was quickly contained by the Middletown Fire Department.  Middletown Police temporarily blocked off High Street, in the case the fire spread, said officials on scene. There was damage to the contents inside of the shed as well as the structure. The fire is still under investigation.

Will the new station put more firefighters on the trucks Austin? They arrived with one firefighter in a sport utility and one firefighter in a big engine. It seems like they need firefighters not a station.   more ›

MFD Rescues 'Loco' the Cat After Two Day Ordeal

Middletown Fire Fighters save Loco the cat

A Middletown cat's unnerving, two day adventure came to an end, thanks to the assistance from the Middletown Fire Department. The two-year-old feline, Loco, which appropriately means 'crazy' in Spanish, climbed to the top of a tree on the corner of  Newport Avenue and Ellery Avenue; and refused to come down. One neighbor bravely attempted a rescue, but Loco had settled on a limb that was over 20 feet high, and was beyond reach of a ladder. Although residents might feel hesitant to dial the fire department for a stranded pet, Middletown Fire Chief Ronald Doire says when in doubt, call. "Middletown Firefighters can do this type of operation safely and help prevent a resident form possibly getting injured doing something beyond their training…
